Chagnot—a Burgundian diminutive of Châgne, itself derived from the Old French chasne meaning “oak”—appears in two adjacent lieux-dits in the commune of Ladoix-Serrigny: Les Chagnots and Clos des Chagnots. Both are situated along the D974, the historic road connecting Dijon and Beaune that runs directly through the village. These names reflect the area's history as a landscape once rich in oak trees, which were likely significant to both the local ecology and traditional land use.
