PHILIPP KUHN took full responsibility for the winemaking and vineyards at his family estate when he was just 20 years old. He released his first vintage in 1992, and with 30 vintages under his belt, he has earned the status of a seasoned veteran in the industry, contributing significantly to the “little wine miracle of Germany.”
PHILIPP KUHN is a prominent figure who has shaped the German wine scene over the past few decades. His collection of prestigious national and international awards is so extensive that there’s hardly any room left for them in his small tasting room. He has won the Deutscher Rotweinpreis 10 times and the Deutscher Rieslingpreis 5 times, achievements that underscore one of the most consistently high wine qualities in Germany—an honor that no other winery has matched.
The foundation of his success lies not only in his intuition and sensitivity towards the vineyards and winemaking but also in his impressive portfolio of highly regarded single vineyards. These sites provide the distinctive profile and character that define Philipp Kuhn wines. The ancient, rugged limestone shapes the landscape of the Northern Palatinate, where renowned sites such as Laumersheimer "Kirschgarten," "Steinbuckel," "Burgweg" in Großkarlbach, and Kallstadter "Saumagen" and "Steinacker" can be found, along with the rare "Schwarzen Herrgott" and "Philippsbrunnen" from the nearby Zellertal. These locations, along with the name Philipp Kuhn, are synonymous with high-quality dry Rieslings, as well as red and white Burgundies.
Kuhn’s commitment to sustainability and his innovative approaches, such as minimal intervention winemaking and organic farming practices, further enhance his wines’ expressiveness and quality. His dedication has not only elevated his own estate but has also played a crucial role in advancing the reputation of German wines on the international stage.
