Weingut Jülg
In Schweigen, located directly on the German-French border in the southern Palatinate, the Jülg family winery has been established since 1961. Here, Werner and his son Johannes Jülg cultivate around 25 hectares of organic vineyards. The focus of their range is on Burgundy grape varieties and Riesling.
An interesting quirk of history: due to its location, 50% of the vineyards are in Wissembourg, on French territory. Before the Schengen Agreement, carrying a passport was mandatory for vineyard work. Today, these two German-French border-crossers unite the best of both cultures every day.
While Werner is dedicated to sparkling wine production with great patience and devotion, Johannes, after years of training at renowned wineries in Germany and France, gives the wines a distinctive signature: elegant, precise, and above all, terroir-driven. These are wines that stand like monuments in the glass and leave a lasting impression.
Hand harvesting is standard, the grapes are processed gently, and depending on the grape variety, maturation takes place in a mix of stainless steel tanks, traditional Palatinate Stückfass (large casks), oak tonneaux, or barriques. This careful approach ensures that the terroir and location are authentically and delicately reflected in the bottle.
Driven by pure passion and ambition, Werner and Johannes work meticulously in both the vineyard and the cellar with the utmost care. Since the younger generation took over, the winery has gained a new dynamic, which has not gone unnoticed by the ranks of the VDP. Since 2021, the winery has been a member of the renowned Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP).
